Ganglion

Other names: Ganglion Cyst, Cyst

What it is: A ganglion is the most common “tumor” of the hand. It is not a cancer. It is a swelling in the tissue of the hand. This can vary
in size from day to day. It can also be associated with some discomfort. It occurs most often in the wrist area, but can also be present
elsewhere in the hand.

Cause: The lining of the tendons and joints in the hand can swell up because of inflammation resulting from numerous reasons, including
trauma or arthritis. This looks like a balloon full of thick fluid.

Treatment: Nothing needs to be done in most cases. It can occasionally be treated with needle aspiration or it can be removed surgically.
Whatever the treatment, recurrence is fairly common.
